Classical Homeopathic Strengths and  Limitations

Strengths of Classical Homeopathic Treatment

Classical homeopathy is effective for acute diseases such as socially transmitted viral diseases such as acute rhinitis (the common cold), flu, stomach “bugs”, and their attendant symptoms. It is also very effective as a palliative treatment of the current symptoms in chronic disease states.
Often Classical Homeopathy “first aid” remedies such as those taught in my consumer classes are great for minor accidents and injuries.  And, if Arnica Montana (for shock, soft tissue bleeding, and bruising) Aconitum Napellum (for shock showing fear states), and Phosphorus (to stop bleeding, without affecting the clotting factors!) could be on every ambulance in the world, many lives would undoubtedly be saved.
Many wonderful homeopathy remedies minimize the swelling and bleeding and then give relief from pain, both before and after dental or surgical treatment.  Additionally, certain single remedies work very well to help with nausea, vomiting, and scarring associated with medical treatment with chemotherapy or radiation for cancer.  Pain relief with homeopathy is not at all uncommon, especially for new injuries.
Every household should have a small remedy kit and a book for reference for acute disease.  Many diseases that are now recognized as being over treated, or treated too often with antibiotics and steroids by the medical profession actually yield very quickly, and are healed, rather than suppressed, through homeopathic treatment.

Limitations to Classical Homeopathy

Classical homeopathy has enjoyed somewhat limited success, unfortunately, because of one weakness. Classical homeopathy seeks to find the one, single “magic bullet” remedy that will eliminate all of a client’s symptoms, permanently.  This sets one up for disappointment.
Often there is immediate, dramatic relief from the current symptoms.  While indeed, this works very well with acute, self-limiting health problems, in chronic, repetitive, or long-term illness, sometimes the relief is only temporary.  Why?   Heilkunst, sequential homeopathy, teaches that there are other factors, specifically the causes of the underlying chronic problem, that must be considered to truly repair the multiple dimensions of chronic disease.
These layers stem from weaknesses in the system, or susceptibilities, both from genetic predisposition and from life’s traumas, illnesses, and injuries.  These must be considered, and addressed homoeopathically, to gain the deepest healing required to eliminate the tendency of chronic symptoms to return.
In other words, one must find and treat the genetic, and historical causative incidents.  Can this be done?  INDEED!  A new approach to homeopathy, with classical homeopathic prescribing at its center, but branching out from that excellent base, is already showing amazing healing of even remote historic events in life.
This is the system used in my homeopathic practice, called Heilkunst.  Heilkunst is a more broad system that examines regimen (diet, exercise, sleep), stresses (past or present living, family or work environment), and looks to the past trauma history, illnesses, family history, etc., to delve into the causes of the current health picture, as well as the events leading up to it.

Homeopathy as both Alternative and Complementary Treatment

As a method of holistic healing, homeopathy is incomparable.  The homeopath considers all aspects of a person’s symptoms, overall health, and lifestyle.  Homeopathy is highly specialized, and unlike any other holistic modality in its approach, yet totally compatible with almost every other modality, adhering to timeless principles of the natural healing process.
With some 3500 remedies at our disposal, there are remedies available for virtually any health issue, both acute and chronic, physical and emotional.  It is an effective complementary treatment to dentistry, psychotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, sports and physical therapies, surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, as well as being an alternative stand-alone system for health improvement and maintenance, and self-care of minor illness or injury. Obviously, if one breaks one’s leg, one goes to a medical practitioner to have it reduced, set, and immobilized.  But there are then many remedies that can be taken to speed the natural healing process, reducing recovery time, and getting people back into their lives faster, and with shorter times of suffering.
For those who are undergoing psychotherapeutic treatment for depression, anxiety, or phobias, homeopathy can “unstick” the stuck patient by allowing the past traumas that bind one to dysfunctional behaviors to surface more quickly and efficiently, allowing them to be processed in the psychotherapeutic setting in far less time.
This could be an answer to those who are, for whatever reason, limited to only brief or occasional psychotherapy.  When undergoing chiropractic treatment, remedies can be taken before and after to reduce the occasional muscle aches and pains that are a result of manipulation, and also, to help the actual adjustment hold longer.
Athletes who are injured can benefit by using homeopathic remedies in this same way.  Also, some homeopathic remedies should be in the arsenal of every athletic team trainer, for the prevention of some overuse injuries, as well as to provide on-the-field pain relief.  When steroids or pharmaceutical pain medications are used, often they are masking the pain, which then opens the door to more serious injury, because the body can’t sound the pain alarm.

 Recognition Of Homeopathy

Homeopathic treatment has been recognized and used as the standard treatment in many parts of the world for nearly two centuries.  It is widely accepted in Canada, England, Europe, Australia, India, Central, and South America, and is undergoing a renewal in the United States.
Homeopathy’s demise in the US, 100 years ago came as the result of its proven effectiveness for illness and injury, and the subsequent move to the homeopathic treatment of choice.  In 1900, there were 22 homeopathic teaching hospitals and at least one homeopath in every town of any size.
By 1920, with the rise of political clout against homeopathy by its self-proclaimed competition, there was only one remaining homeopathic teaching hospital, and it was in the process of being taken over by the medical establishment.  Homeopathy was then carried on by a few hardy souls who held fast to their belief in this remarkable system of natural medicine.
These dedicated people are responsible for the continuance of the homeopathic tradition today.  Without them, homeopathy would not be making its current renewal of interest and practice in the United States.  My heartiest gratitude to them all.

Whether you are interested in alternative medicine and curious to find out what homeopathy is all about, or whether you are familiar with this natural, holistic and dynamic system of medicine and interested in treatment, welcome to the Homeopathic Practice!
